Decisive meeting between Mangala and former Customs Director General today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Several well-placed sources speculated that a decisive discussion will be held between the Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera and former Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs P. M. S. Charles at the Finance Ministry on Tuesday (05).

The discussion will be based on the recent situation with regard to the appointment of new Director General to the Sri Lanka Customs.

The Customs Trade Unions Alliance to continue the work-to-rule strike action today as well, in protest over the Government’s decision to appoint retired Navy Officer, Rear Admiral Shamal Fernando as the new Director General of Sri Lanka Customs.

The Cabinet of Ministers recently approved the replacement of Charles.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry appointed H. G. Sumanasinghe, the Director General – Department of Management Services of the Ministry as the Acting Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs until the matter is resolved.
