Customs work-to-rule strike continues today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The Customs Trade Unions Alliance to continue the work-to-rule strike action today (02) as well, in protest over the Government’s decision to appoint retired Navy Officer, Rear Admiral Shamal Fernando as the new Director General of Sri Lanka Customs.

The work-to-rule strike action is continuing as yesterday’s (01) discussions with the Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera on resolving the matter has not been successful.

The Cabinet of Ministers recently approved the replacement of incumbent Customs Director General, P. S. M. Charles.

Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry on Thursday (31) appointed H. G. Sumanasinghe, the Director General – Department of Management Services of the Ministry as the Acting Director General of the Sri Lanka Customs until the matter is resolved.
