Eight individuals arrested for setting tyres a light and pelting stones at the Bingiriya police

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The area residents of Bingiriya engaged in a protest against the local police last night for releasing an individual on bail who was responsible for the death of one owing to a road accident.

It was reported that the area residents engaged in the protest by pelting stones at the police and burning tires.

A collision between a van and motorcycle on Sunday night in Bigiriya Prasannagama, resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

The driver of the van was arrested, produced before courts and was subsequently released on bail.

Police arrested 8 individuals who were engaged in the protest.

It has been reported that over 20 motorcycles believed to be the property of protesters were also seized.

Meanwhile, an individual who had made his way to Meegoda police station last night to file a complaint was assaulted by a group in a luxury vehicle.

A police officer who attempted to mediate the situation was attacked by the suspect.

The suspect was arrested.

The individual who filed the complaint was injured in the incident and has been admitted to the Padukka district hospital.

The police officer was admitted to the Homagama base hospital for treatment.
