President opened the new Laggala Green Town

(UTV|COLOMBO) – President Maithripala Sirisena has declared open the new Laggala Green Town a short while ago.

The Old Laggala town was submerged due to the construction of the Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga Multi-Purpose Development Project.

The entire town spanning 75 acres comprises a new Police Station, a Unit Management Office, A cooperative Building Complex, a Pradeshiya Sabha building, a Divisional Secretariat, peoples fair and a pubic market complex. The new Laggala town also has a new bus stand and a Post Office as well as 26 state institutions including banks and financial institutions.

The 26 buildings constructed for state institutions to provide public services have been designed to connect to each other conveniently. The President will also vest the new community hospital and the secondary school with the public tomorrow.

The highest compensation has been paid to the people who had lost their property due to the Moragahakanda Kalu Ganga Project. The President had personally mediated in this process. Compensation totaling more than Rs. 11 billion had been paid. In addition to the compensation each family has been given a half acre of land and an extent of one and a half acre of paddy land.
