Wimal Weerawansa back in Court today

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – United People’s Freedom Alliance (UFA) Parliamentarian (MP) Wimal Weerawansa arrested and remanded on charges of misusing state vehicles and aiding and abetting the same, will be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

When the case was last taken up for hearing Former Deputy General Manager of the State Engineering Corporation Samantha Lokuhannage arrested on the same charge was released on bail.

The Magistrate however ordered Lokuhannage’s passport to be impounded.

MP Wimal Weerawansa was arrested on the charge of providing state vehicles to friends and family during his term as the former Minister of Construction and Housing during under the tenure of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance led government, thereby incurring the government financial losses.

He was arrested on the 10th of January.
