Compensation for damaged paddy lands in Mullaitivu and Killinochchi

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Ministry of Agriculture has decided to compensate paddy farmers who were affected by the receent floods that affected Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi districts.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Agriculture announced that steps will be taken to pay compensation of Rs 40,000 per acre if there is damage caused to paddy cultivation.

Also, the Ministry has decided to give a 50 percent subsidy to purchase seed paddy if farmers are willing to re-cultivate these paddy lands.

The Ministry of Agriculture further stated that a fertilizer subsidy will also be provided for them.
