“Abolishing Executive Presidency, main focus of new Government,” Premier says

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Abolishing the Executive Presidency and bringing about a political solution is to be the main focus of the new Government, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated on Sunday (16).

In a special statement after being appointed as the Prime Minister, the Leader of the United National Party (UNP) said that discussions are on-going with a number of political parties in respect to abolishing the Executive Presidency.

“We will have discussions with the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) to bring about a political solution in which all citizens can live in harmony in a unitary state,” Premier
Wickremesinghe said at Temple Trees.
