20 arrested over weapons found at Mt. Lavinia Court

(UDHAYAM,COLOMBO) – Towenty individuals believed to be linked to the weaponry found at the Magistrate’s Court in Mount Lavinia have been arrested by the police, police revealed.

Police Spokesperson, Priyantha Jayakody stated that nine out of the twenty suspects were arrested on- site, while 11 others who had arrived at the premises during the incident had been arrested as well.   16 out of the 20 suspects are individuals residing in the Ratmalana area.

Police stated that they have received statements from the police personnel who were on duty at the time of the incident as well as from prison officers who were in charge of the prisoners who had arrived at the Magistrate’s Court that day.

They added that the case had been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for forensic investigations to be carried out in the hope of finding fingerprints on the weaponry.  Jayakody stated that further investigations are being carried out to identify the motives and individuals behind the placement of the weaponry at the Magistrate’s Court.
