ACMC calls on President to uphold democracy violated on Oct. 26

(UTV|COLOMBO) – The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Wednesday (12) urged President Maithripala Sirisena to act within a Constitutional and legal framework, to reappoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister in order to reinstate the Government to what it was before 26 October.

“ACMC strongly calls on President Maithripala Sirisena to reappoint Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka after successful motion showing 117 confidence in Parliament. Let’s continue our march for Sri Lanka’s democracy,” the Leader of ACMC, Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen tweeted.

Sri Lanka’s ousted Prime Minister, Wickremesinghe emphatically proved his majority in Parliament yesterday, weeks after being sacked by President Sirisena in a controversial move that plunged the country into a political turmoil.

As many as 117 out of 225 Parliamentarians voted to pass a confidence motion in his leadership.

The ACMC voted in favour of the confidence motion, as its Leader Bathiudeen vowed that they would.

Parliamentarian Bathiudeen Sunday (09) tweeted emphasising that “ACMC backs Parliament motion expressing confidence in UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as we want restoration of Sri Lanka’s democracy that was lost on 26 October and reinstatement of legal Cabinet of Ministers that was deposed.”
