“No need of UN security for North” Gotabaya says

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Sunday (09) rejected the need for the security protection of the United Nations (UN) for the North as Sri Lanka Armed Forces are capable to protect the country.

Rajapaksa made this remarks to the media at the Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita last evening.

He was questioned by Journalists on some diaspora groups’ request from the UN for security to the North, citing the prevailing political instability. “We can deal with such matters with our militaries,” Rajapaksa added.

UN Officials last Wednesday (05) visited Mullaitivu to obtain information on the impact of the prevailing political instability is having on human rights in the country.

UN Delegation reportedly held talks with the Representatives of Civil Society, and the family members of people reported missing during the war in Mullaitivu.
