“Government has no majority in Parliament,” Speaker rules

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has ruled that the Government did not have the majority in Parliament.

Speaker Jayasuriya gave the ruling after a No Confidence Motion on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was taken for a vote when Parliament began sessions on Wednesday (14).

The Speaker calculated the votes based on the voices he heard as Government Parliamentarians disrupted the proceedings.
