Speaker says he will not recognise the new Govt. until it demonstrate Parliamentary majority

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Speaker Karu Jayasuriya issuing a statement on Monday (05) stated that until a new faction is capable of showing the majority in Parliament, he will only recognise previous status quo in Parliament.

Jayasuriya stressed that he will accept the opinion of the majority of members that the changes done in Parliament were unconstitutional and against the norms.

Therefore, the Speaker emphasised that he will not recognise the new Government until it demonstrate the majority in Parliament.

President Maithripala Sirisena has ordered the suspended Parliament to reconvene on 14 November, and his decree for the House to reconvene on 14 November was published in the official Gazette on Sunday (04).
