(UTV|COLOMBO) – The United States (US) urged political parties in Sri Lanka on Friday (26) to abide by the Constitution and refrain from violence.

The US State Department said that it was following the events in Sri Lanka after Ranil Wickremesinghe was removed as Prime Minister.

“We call on all parties to act in accordance with SL’s constitution, refrain from violence, and follow due process,” the US State Department said.

It said that the US also expects Sri Lanka to uphold its Geneva commitments to human rights, reform, accountability, justice, and reconciliation.
