Theft of 50 laptops: Individual impersonating a University student arrested

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Mirihana special crimes investigations unit (CIU) has arrested an individual who allegedly stole several laptops from 7 university hostels throughout the island, gaining access onto the premises by pretending to be a university student.

Police noted that the arrested individual had stolen over 50 laptops, valued at over 5 million rupees.

The individual, a resident of Mirihana, was arrested in Maharagama.

Reports confirmed the suspect was an escapee from Mahara prison and that there had been several complaints filed against him at several police stations around the country.

The stolen laptops are currently in the possession of the Mirihana special crimes investigations unit.

The owners are being advised that they can retrieve their laptops with proof of identification.
